#SURPAC SOFTWARE#
The main objective of this course book is not to discuss in detail the theory behind drilling and blasting, but to get one up to speed quickly in utilizing the software tools available to design blast patterns. Not only do these provide evidence of the quality of his work, but they also provide a wealth of information upon which he can draw as future blasting situations develop (Source: Partha Das Sharma, Rock Breakage and Blast Design Considerations in Open Pit). Thus, for a blaster, valuable tool is the file of blast reports that he builds as he gains experience. Good drilling practice include carefully monitoring drill-rig operating parameters, taking careful notes of the changes in geology during drilling, and effectively communicating to the blasting crew any unusual conditions encountered during drilling that may affect blasting results or require changes in hole loading practices.īlast designing is not a science, but knowledge, experience, studying and analyzing past practices in relation to rock strata & geology etc., makes blaster to achieve perfection. Datamine software was the second-most used software for ‘geological mapping’ and ‘block modelling’ with 20%, and for ‘mine planning’ purposes with 12%. Only two other software platforms, Datamine and MineSight, were nominated in second place across the three categories. GEOVIA states that the survey results “indicated a clear preference for GEOVIA’s Surpac, as it dominated nominations in each of the five categories.” Surpac was used by 43% of mines for ‘mine planning’, 38% for ‘geological mapping and block modelling’, 38% also for ‘surveying’ and 34% for ‘drill and blasting’ needs as well as ‘scheduling purposes’. The respondents were asked to nominate one or multiple software used in five main mining processes: ‘geological mapping and block modelling’, ‘surveying’, ‘drill and blast’, ‘mine scheduling’ and ‘mine planning’.

Timetric’s MIC identified the different mining software platforms used at individual mine sites across the African continent based on interviews with over 110 African mine managers and other senior decision-makers. According to a recent survey by Timetric’s Mining Intelligence Centre (MIC), GEOVIA’s Surpac has come out as the most widely used mining software across African mines, followed by Datamine and Hexagon Mining’s MineSight.
